Happy Earth Day

Happy Earth Day! Yesterday my sweet friend Suzy called me over for a crafty play date. The kids at our school are celebrating Earth Day with an all-school walk. Suzy was asked to make a few recycled center pieces out of juice cans and found stuffies. We came up with these flower pots. We cut flower petals from the cans and hot glued them to sticks. The pots are covered with sticks also and wrapped with fabric. Our fingers are tender today, but i think they turned out really cute.

How are you observing Earth Day? Do something loving for your Mother planet ♥

Everything's Coming Up Rosettes

I've been looking for a way to make flower rosettes that don't take a lot of time or talent! I came across this great tutorial at plumtickled.typepad.com. Even i found her directions easy to follow, and well, let's say i've become a little obsessed! ( the good kind )

Yup, that's one big flower! What goes better on a cardi that a big 'ol flower! Embellish! Accessorise! I can't leave anything alone...that's just me!

Go make a rosette ( or ten )!

Fireplace (almost) Finished

Our fireplace re-do is almost complete. We started with a non-discript corner 70's fireplace...

Added a mantle and sides. Then got out the chain and hammer and let loose some suburban girl whoop- arse on the whole thing- really felt good!

Painted an under coat of deep green, and then a top coat of cream.

Rubbed down the whole thing with a coat of this amazing wax- it gives an instant vintage, aged, slightly dirty look that i love!

See? Kind of worn, good dirt

The (almost) finished product. It still needs a glass screen on the front, but the price has me a little put off. And of course it needs STUFF! This should be no problem, I.Love.Stuff ♥

Hope you have a wonderful, crafty weekend!

Dreamy Dresses

Sometimes you come across one of those thrifting finds that just speaks to your inner little girl. Last week i went to an estate sale in a beautiful old house (of course i remodeled AND decorated the whole thing in my mind) that called out for a loving touch. The contents of the sale explained where the owners heart was...in her closet. Racks and racks, room after room of clothes. Decades of fashion, the good, the bad, and the really bad. Stuffed in between parachute pants and vinyl jumpers, were these darling petty coats

Will i wear these??? You betcha! They will be darling under my summer skirts. Can't you just see me at the farmers market this summer twirling around the corn stalls, flaunting my frills? O.K. maybe that's not such a good visual :)

I also picked up these lacy nighties and party dress

Sweet bed jacket

But my favorite was this lacy black number. I wore this to dinner last weekend with black boots and a cashmere shrug. I felt just dreamy and girly!

Good bye Oreo Pie

On Saturday we had my sweet man's sister and family over for a BBQ. This is always a good time, my girls love hanging with their older (and amazingly cool )older cousins and the conversation and time together is always fun. I made an Oreo pie for dessert...chocolaty, gooey, the kind of sinful dessert you dream about..and i did. All night a had visions of this crazy good Oreo pie in my head. So, of course first thing the next morning (even before coffee!) i reach for that naughty pie... and...AHHH, pie thieves!

Apparently two other little girls had the same vision dancing through their dreams, too!

Wonder where they get it from???

All these clothes have to go on one man.

But look how happy it makes him...sweet( kind of crazy) man ♡

Go Tigers!!!

Have a great weekend!

A couple spray paint projects

In my weekly run to Salvation Army, i came across this lazy susan. Pretty boring except for the really cute scalloped glass trays! I grabbed a can of Krylon in 'French Linen' and started spraying. I unscrewed the gold handle and sprayed that with chrome . For some reason (couldn't be my impatience!) the chrome spray paint never really dries quite smooth.

I also picked up this candelabra which was dirt brown until i gave it a make-over with spray paint, a bit of sanding and a buff of paste wax. (Sorry, no before picture)

I love how this turned out! At first i thought it would be great outside on the deck, but it just might make it over to the top of the piano.

Here is the after of the lazy susan with it's adorable scalloped dishes. Now i can't decide if i should use it as a craft caddy with buttons and stuff OR keep it in the kitchen for serving condiments...maybe i'll do both. If you come over for dinner some time and happen to find a button in the relish...well, now you'll know my secret!

How is your Wednesday?

Spring Spruce Up

My girls are home from school this week and have me running all over town completing their lists of 'things-to-do-while-on-spring-break'. Lucky for me their list included a trip to the antique mall! I found this sweet compact with a container for powder and one for rough. I love the enameled top and sides.

We have been cleaning, baking and tiding up the yard, it feels so great to finally be outside! Everything is budding and blooming like crazy-love it!

Our little tomato sprouts are coming along too- hopefully it will be a good tomato year!
